Memphis: Home of the Blues, Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll

Still riding high from hitting 1000 miles, I rumbled into the River City and onto Riverside Drive. That's where I spotted the beauty pictured above. Right around the corner on Front Street is the City of Memphis Fire Department Headquarters, housed in the same building as Engine 5. Even though this was an unscheduled stop and the guys didn't know I was coming, they were more than welcoming, sharing with me the history of their department, and pointing me to some downtown sights, including the Memphis Fire Museum, which has a beautiful firefighter memorial. Thanks for the water and the tips, fellas!
Of course, I couldn't leave without sampling some of Memphis's famous grub. I rode down to Beale Street, the history rich downtown hub. At the Blues City Cafe, I got to bum some WiFi while enjoying the best gumbo I've ever tasted. I even got a Facebook plug from the manager!

Motorcycling for Ovarian Cancer Awareness

This summer, I’m riding my Harley across the country and back in 16 days. I’ll be stopping at firehouses along the way to promote awareness about ovarian cancer, because everyone should know the symptoms. While the fire department is a field dominated by men, we have mothers, wives, daughters, girlfriends, and sisters.

I’m asking you to support my journey by donating to the HERA Women's Cancer Foundation. My goal is to raise $6000 for HERA’s mission, a dollar for every mile I ride. They have set up a webpage for me where you can make a tax-deductible donation. HERA is not supporting my journey financially. All of the proceeds that HERA receives will go directly towards their mission. Through a combination of corporate sponsorship and my own funds, I will cover the expenses associated with my journey.
